Scooter Insurance

Existing customers please call

High quality scooter insurance at a low price is what Bikesure have specialised in for years. We have access to a wide variety of specialist scooter insurance schemes, and can offer Defaqto 5 Star rated cover tailored to your exact needs.

With cheap scooter insurance prices for learners, younger riders, experienced riders, commuters and scootering enthusiasts we offer a complete low-cost, high quality service to all owners of scooters. And as a specialist broker, we can offer cover if your scooter is a classic or modified.

Specialist Insurance for Scooters

Perhaps you’re a teenager with a 50cc scooter, or maybe a classic scooter enthusiast with a Lambretta. You might enjoy rides with a friend on a two seater Suzuki Burgman, or you may just appreciate your scooter as a stylish and comfortable way to get from A to B. Whatever your lifestyle, there is probably a motor scooter out there for you, but finding a reasonable scooter quote may be somewhat trickier.

The problem is that a lot of insurance companies don’t understand the particular needs of the scooter owner. They don’t take account of the many ways in which scooters differ from bikes, and as a result, the unwary scooterist may be charged over the odds.

Bikesure is different

When you take out an insurance policy from Bikesure, you can be confident that the policy matches your needs as a scooter owner. That’s because we have access to an array of specialist insurance schemes, many of which have been designed purely for scooters, including tailored schemes catering for standard scooters, classic scooters and customised scooters.

What’s more, when you use our online scooter quote and buy system you can instantly compare scooter quotes selected from those available and then choose which one is best for you. If you like the price you see you can buy online, or speak to one of our knowledgeable underwriters to take up the policy or discuss further options.

Because our insurance is tailored to your needs, you can choose which features will benefit you most. Every policy comes with £100,000 of free legal cover, but we also offer optional add-ons including personal injury cover, comprehensive breakdown cover and protective clothing and helmet insurance.

Protection for 50cc and 125cc scooters

Whether your scooter has a 50cc engine or a 125cc engine, Bikesure can help. As the UK’s largest independent specialist broker, we help you source affordable cover that can be tailored to your needs. This means that features such as breakdown cover or helmet and leathers cover can be added to your policy with ease. So whether you require 50cc scooter insurance, 125cc scooter insurance, or even cover for scooters with more power, give us a ring for a free, no-obligation quote.

Will the scooter’s engine size affect the cost of my insurance?

Yes – as a general rule, the smaller the scooter’s engine, the lower your insurance. Of course, your quote depends on a lot more factors than the size of your vehicle’s engine, including the scooter’s make and model, but a 50cc scooter will usually be cheaper to insure than if you were to purchase a 125cc scooter.

If you’ve passed your A1 licence, we don’t blame you for wanting something a little more powerful, especially as scooters with 125cc engines can be ridden on motorways. Whichever you go with, a good choice for your scooter insurance is Bikesure. We even offer modified scooter insurance and cover for those with non-standard engines – just let us know about these when you give us a ring and we’ll work out a tailored quote for you.

What is the difference between a scooter and a moped?

Mopeds and scooters are often confused with each other, which is why we’re here to help you understand the key differences.

Simply put, a bike is classed as a scooter when it has a platform to place your feet while riding. Some scooters can go up to 800cc, whereas a moped has a maximum capacity of 50cc. These vehicles also have different max speeds, with mopeds only able to reach 28mph and scooters reaching as high as 115mph. These factors mean that scooters are generally a lot more powerful than mopeds – and usually tend to have a higher price tag.

At Bikesure, we offer both scooter and moped insurance; call us to find out more.

This helps cover the costs involved with replacing your helmet and protective clothing in the event of a motorcycle accident so you can get back on the road as soon as possible. Underwritten by Trinity Lane Insurance Company Ltd.

Scooter Insurance Problems Resolved

My scooter was covered on a chassis number

When I bought a scooter on the internet, I had no idea I’d have to register it myself. I was in a chicken and egg situation, because I needed scooter insurance before I could register it, but no-one would give me the cover until it was registered.

Thankfully, Bikesure agreed to insure the scooter using just the chassis number, allowing me to get my registration completed.

Sample Quotes

TGB 303R Hawk 125

Sarah is 22 and has owned her TGB 303R Hawk 125 for a year, and uses it to commute to her work from her home in Taunton (TN3). She’s a committed biker and passed her Category A test in January 2013. She has 1 year’s no claims discount available. The bike dates from 2007 and is worth around £500, and as she lives in a relatively crime-free area, she doesn’t have any additional security for the bike.

Sarah’s rate is just £189.24 for TPF&T cover, or only £135.82 for Third Party Only protection.

Vespa Piaggio Fly 50

Owen, 29, hails from Lincoln(LN4) and has a Vespa Piaggio Fly 50 2009 model which is parked on his drive, as he doesn’t have a garage. The bike cost him £850 and he can’t wait to ride it – he’s just passed his CBT. Owen will be using his bike as a cheap way of commuting to work.

Owen’s rate is just £142.88 for TPF&T cover, or £107.94 for Third Party Only.

Insurance to ride any bike

Ever fancied borrowing a friend’s or family member’s bike, but been worried that you might not be insured should you have an accident?

With Bikesure’s “ride any bike” insurance, you could add the equivalent of comprehensive insurance to your policy while you ride other people’s bikes – leaving you and the owner safe in the knowledge that you’re covered, whatever happens.

With up to a £10,000 claims limit, accidental damage, third party, fire, and theft cover included, and no need to let us know every time you borrow a new bike, you’ll be free to hop on and hit the road whenever you like.

Agreed Value Insurance

Whatever bike you ride, from a scooter to a cruiser, dirt bike to superbike, you want to know that you can claim back the full value of your bike if it’s written off.

With agreed value insurance from Bikesure, we’ll work with you to agree the true value of your bike when you take out a policy, and make sure that you get that sum back when you need to claim – helping you to fund a replacement bike without leaving you out of pocket.

Helmet and leathers

It’s no secret that your helmet and leathers are some of the most important items for staying safe on a bike – and that they can cost hundreds of pounds to replace if damaged.

For just £29.99 a year, our helmet and leathers insurance will cover up to £1,500 in the costs involved with repairing or replacing your leathers and helmet (or £40.00 for £3,000 in costs), including full leathers and other protective clothing, boots and gloves.

With a low £50 excess for each claim, insuring your protective kit could save you hundreds following an accident, and claims on your helmet and leathers policy won’t affect your bike no claims bonus.

Keycare Insurance

If you’ve ever lost your keys, you’ll know that it’s no laughing matter, and can in fact end up costing you a lot of money in locksmith fees.

For just £19.00 a year, our keycare insurance policy will cover locksmith expenses, replacement locks and keys, bike immobilizer replacement costs, vehicle hire costs, and transport costs if you’re stranded, up to a value of £1,500.
