Is Novus the Tesla of motorcycles?

Novus

Electric vehicles are becoming more and more popular, but Novus are the forward thinking manufacturer you may never have heard of.

The German start-up have unveiled their first electric motorcycle, which is undeniably cool, but at the cost of nearly €50,000, the brand have set their stall to be the Tesla of the motorcycle world, fantastic but unaffordable for the average rider. Novus say riders are able to pre-order the machine ready for the first deliveries of the bike in 2022.

Having already caused a stir at the CES in Las Vegas back in the 2019 when presenting their prototype, a key question has remained on the lips of many motorcyclists. Does it really justify the same price as a Tesla Model 3?

With a 18-kW motor offering around 24hp and maximum speed of 120 km/h and able to go from 0-50km/h in three seconds, Novus claim the bike can cover around 100 kilometers on a single charge.

The single seater weighs in at only 125 kilograms due to the carbon-fiber elements including the frame and the fork, whilst the wheels contain carbon-fiber elements too. Remarkably the battery itself only weighs 75 kilograms.

Novus’ latest model comes with phone storage and can be unlocked without a key through an app on your smartphone. But remarkably Novus claims the bike’s battery can be charged to as much as 80% of its capacity within an hour.

Of course the sticking point for most riders will undoubtedly be the price. Starting at €39,900 before tax is already a steep price and with countries whose VAT runs to as much as 20% will see customers having to pay €47,880.

To pre-order one of the Novus bikes you will need a €1,000 deposit, the same as if you were ordering a Tesla, but as stated above you will need to wait over a year before you finally receive your shiny new bike, as Santa won’t be delivering it until 2022 at the earliest.
