When it comes to motorcycle brands, NAWA is not the first name that springs to mind, but they are one of the most forthright manufacturers in the industry.

The French company recently unveiled the NAWA Racer at CES 2020 in Las Vegas, and while it’s not the first electric motorcycle on the market, the prototype is a beautifully designed bike with a body style based on London’s speedy cafe motorcycles from the 1960s.

But it’s not just the design that’s different, where most electric vehicles rely on lithium-ion batteries for power, NAWA have created an ‘ultracapacitor’ to improve performance and allows the bike to go from 0-60mph in less than three seconds. Not only is this bike quick off the mark, but the ‘ultracapcitor’ allows riders to travel up to 93 miles on a single charge.

Essentially designed for city riders, the NAWA Racer is able to recharge in mere seconds whilst stopping in traffic by recycling energy, meaning you could push up to 186 miles without charging according to inhabitat. With its regenerative braking technology the Racer can save up 80% of its power, if you slugging along on a frustrating journey. Riders can also recharge the NAWA Racer at home to and within an just over an hour it is back up and running at nearly full capacity.

Ulrik Grape, CEO of NAWA Technologies, further explained the company’s vision for the bike and for the future of electric vehicles: “The NAWA Racer is our vision for the electric motorbike of tomorrow — a retro-inspired machine but one that is thoroughly modern,” Grape is quoted.

“It is lightweight, fast and fun, perfect for an emission-free city commute that will put a smile on your face. But it also lays down a blueprint for the future. NAWA Technologies’ next-gen ultracapacitors have unleashed the potential of the hybrid battery system — and this design of powertrain is fully scalable. There is no reason why this cannot be applied to a larger motorbike or car or other electric vehicle. What is more, this technology could go into production in the very near future.”

Bikesure have a range of affordable insurance policies for imported electric scooters such as the NIU. You’ve probably worked hard to find the bike of your dreams, we’ll work hard to find an insurance deal to match.
