First electric Harley-Davidson is an EV with attitude

The first electric Harley-Davidson has hit the strip with its launch at the CES 2019 technology expo in Las Vegas.

The electric Harley-Davidson LiveWire may be following the trend by going green but it raises the bar in terms of acceleration, cruising speed and battery life.

Electric Harley-Davidson tops at 120mph

The “twist-and-go” EV with attitude rips up the tarmac from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, tops at 120 miles per hour and can do more than 100 miles of mixed urban and highway driving on a single charge.

The manufacturers promise that when you ride this electric Harley-Davidson the loudest thing you will hear is your heart racing.

Pre-orders for the $30,000 bike are now open in the US, and it is due to launch in the UK in the autumn.

LiveWire is equipped with a full suite of electronic aids, with a variety of sensors and programmable touch controls.

And, with no clutch to release and no gears to run through, the twist-and-go technology  makes this electric Harley-Davidson very responsive and incredibly easy to ride.

It will plug into any standard household outlet and get a full charge overnight.

LiveWire has built-in GPS for location tracking

With cellular telematics connectivity, you can connect to the electric Harley-Davidson remotely through your smartphone. You will be able to check things like battery, see the bike’s location on a map, and get security alerts if it’s been bumped, tampered with or moved.

This EV presents a stark contrast to the rebel image of the traditional Harley owners riding a Softail, Fat Boy, Ironhead or Electra Glide, but it has so far been well received.

Harley-Davidson President and CEO, Matt Levatich, said: “We’re at a historic juncture in the evolution of mobility, and Harley-Davidson is at the forefront.

“Innovation that moves the body and soul has always been at the heart of our brand, and this next chapter in our history is about creating products and opportunities for existing and aspiring riders of all ages and walks of life.”

Finding value for money insurance is what moves the body and soul of the team at Bikesure. We have a whole raft of specialist policies for electric bikes and more traditional petrol Harley-Davidsons.

And, like the electric Harley-Davidson LiveWire, we’re pretty quick off the mark too with one of the quickest quotation services in the business.
