How the motorcycle helmet evolved [infographic]

The first motorcycle helmet was not a helmet at all – just a leather cap that would prevent nothing more serious than a few cranial grazes.

But concussion injuries in bike racing led to the first hard helmets introduced at the Isle of Man TT in 1914, dramatically reducing injuries and paving the way for a gradual evolution to the hi-tech helmets we see today.
