It was a dream come true for dozens of motorcyclists who had cheered from the sidelines as Superbike legend Carl Fogarty won four world titles.
For one day only, more than 50 bikers from across the country rode wheel to wheel with the great man during a track day organised by Bikesure.
Nearly 40 competition winners, plus guests and journalists, pitted their skills alongside Foggy, an ambassador for the broker, on the dips, crests and turns of a sun-drenched Cadwell Park.
Check out our short video of the day:
Riders ranging from trackday novices to experienced racers received some words of wisdom from the man who clocked up 59 world Superbike wins before getting a close-up view on the Lincolnshire track.
Just about every major motorcycle manufacturer was represented on the track, with bikes including a BMW K1100LT, Triumph Speed Triple 1050, Honda CB500F, KTM990 Superduke and a Ducati 916.
Competition winner Martyn Nicholls, riding an Aprilia Mille R, said it had been “an excellent day” and “the chance to ride on the same track as a motorcycling legend”.
“The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and the weather was amazing. Foggy himself was an absolute gentleman,” he added.
James Swaine from Dorking, another competition winner and riding a Suzuki GSXR said: “As if having the opportunity to ride Cadwell Park wasn’t enough, in between sessions we all had the good fortune of watching Carl do his thing on the circuit, or chatting to him at his van.
“Where else can an individual have such access to a motorcycling superstar and world champion? I thought Carl was the epitome of a superstar on and off the track – what a nice guy, not bad on two wheels either. A thoroughly enjoyable day had by all, not likely to be repeated.”
Robert Balls, of Bikesure, said it was “a fantastic experience, made all the more special by seeing everyone there having such a great time”.
“It made it feel very much worthwhile. The day had a big grin factor associated with it that is still lingering,” he added.
Foggy himself, who entertained the participants with some spectacular wheelies and overtaking, enjoyed revisiting one of his old stamping grounds.
“Cadwell is a circuit I really like, although it’s quite narrow and you can easily get caught out,” he said. “I thoroughly enjoyed the day – it was great to get back out on to the track and everyone had a great time in fantastic weather.”
To enter the competition, motorcyclists just needed to phone Bikesure for a quote between May 1 and July 31 to enter a draw, with existing Bikesure customers automatically invited to enter.
