John Taylor and William Gue built the first Veloce motorbike in Birmingham in 1906. The company gained a reputation for producing machines of very high quality and with great technical specifications and in the 20s and 30s were a real force in racing, even though their production was never at the same levels as their Midlands competitors. Their most famous post-war model was the Velocette LE, used by many police forces and known as the noddy bike. Production came to an end in 1971.
