AMC, Associated Motor Cycles, was the parent company of Matchless, Sunbeam, AJS, Norton, James and Francis Barnett. The AMC name came about in 1937 (for the first year it was short for Amalgamated Motor Cycles) and lasted until 1966 when the company was reformed as Norton-Villiers under Manganese Bronze. There were no motorcycles ever made which bore the AMC name, which was just used for the parent company. Liquidation followed in 1974.
