AJW was founded by Arthur John Wheaton and built motorbikes from other companies' parts on a small production line. Though popular in the 1930s, production was halted during the war and didn't restart until 1948, when new owners took over. Production ceased again in 1953, but new bikes were made using the AJW name from 1958-64 and again in 1976 with new owners in each case.
